Cost of living in Warsaw

Warsaw has had 15 years ago, without  but very few noticing that, the crown of the cheapest and most vibrant European capital for nightlife. That has been steadily changing every year until 2019. Covid pandemic management has had a discrete effect mainly in reducing the efficiency and quality of city services and a relative impact on prices. However what has dramatically changed the cost of living has been the conflict still ongoing at the borders between Russia and Ukraine. Now the ratio between wages and cost of living is not that convenient for Expats that cannot aspire to get well paid job positions. The most important factor is the cost of the rent not only due to an increase of demand (some Ukrainians have established themselves in Warsaw but the overall population in Warsaw has been stable around 1.800.000 people) but to aggressive speculative real-estate business and speculative greed of household owners. Currently Expats should consider Warsaw not necessarily as a first choice but consider other available options also.

How to follow the news in Poland

Polish language requires time and application to be mastered.

Meanwhile a precious tool that will help you to surf the sources in Polish is the TWRP browser extension, available for Firefox and other browsers: TWP for Firefox. You can search of course the same or similar extension for other browsers.

Once you have installed the extension you will be able to translate entire webpages with one click and that will give you access to all the news and administration websites you need.

Forget the mainstream media in Poland, they are all heavily biased and mostly organs of propaganda for the usual subjects you should have learned to classify by yourselves long ago.

Worth noticing because a bit off the beaten path are:

https://medianarodowe.com/ conservative point of view and alternative

https://www.pap.pl/en Polish press agency, mainstream but at least not sencond hand

https://banbye.com/tags/wRealu24 The alternative media Polish reaction to Big Tech censorship

If you really want to go rogue, mainstream "public enemy" number one podium is currently assigned to the politician https://www.grzegorzbraun.pl/

Independent journalist https://sumlinski.pl/ is also rogue enough food for thought.

The Polish Statistical Office is also a precious source that will help you to develop a deeper understanding of Poland
